Book of Oz UK Slot
This fantasy themed online slot comes from Microgaming. It’s loosely themed on the classic book and movie ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ drawing inspiration from the Emerald City in particular. Play on this slot happens on a 5x3 reel-and-row layout, with ten fixed pay lines to be found and RTP coming in at 96.30%. On top of the base game are two exciting bonus features. We’re very happy to offer this slot to players here at UK Slot Games, where we also host over 500 great slots like Great Rhino, Starburst, Rainbow Riches and Bonanza.

In the classic 1930s movie ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ Judy Garland set off to the Emerald City, meeting a fantastical set of characters on the way. She also accidentally kills the first person she meets, and then gleefully sets about committing a further murder. In short, Dorothy and her friends wreak havoc on the Emerald City, and it may never recover. You won’t see any of that in Microgaming’s Book of Oz slot though. It appears to be set in the same location, but at a time before Dorothy’s fateful (and fatal) visit.
There are probably copyright issues preventing this from being a ‘true' adaptation of Frank L. Baum's opus, which would explain why none of the characters from the novel or film are present in the slot, save for a familiar-looking wizard. What we have instead is a very green art-deco design which is full of character and charm. Make no mistake - this slot is beautifully designed and contains plenty of visual intricacies.
When all you have is the famously-green Emerald City to work with, you're going to go big on the idea of ‘green.' The background is green, the reels are green, the frame is green - everything is green apart from the symbols which provide a welcome color-break. The least valuable ones are playing cards J to A, which sit below three different bottles of potions (red, purple and blue) and the wonderful wizard himself.
The wizard’s book of magic spells is both the slots wild and its scatter, and therefore can substitute for absolutely everything else to help you make paying lines. Hey - that’s magic!
Game Bonus Features
The Book of Oz slot comes with a pair of bonus features to bring an extra dash of magic to your game. One of them is s ‘do it yourself’ reel modifier, and the other is more the sort of classic bonus feature you’re likely to encounter in many other slots.
The reel modifier comes in the shape of a Respin feature which seems designed to take some of the frustration out of your game. All of us who have played slots before know the irritation of constantly being one symbol short of triggering a bonus feature, or one symbol short of what would have been a lucrative winning line. If you find yourself narrowly missing out on a spin, Book of Oz lets you do something about it. Underneath every reel is a ‘respin' button. If you choose to use it, that individual reel will spin again, and every other symbol in view will stay exactly where it is. Best of all, you can do this as many times as you wish, so if at first you don't succeed you're more than welcome to try again. The slot isn't so generous that it lets you do this for free, though. The cost of respinning a reel is calculated based on two factors; the size of your stake and the potential value of what spinning the reels again will bring. That means if you're close to a big win, it will likely cost far more than a typical full spin of the reels to chase after it. Ultimately, you have to use your judgment.
The second bonus feature on offer is Free Spins. It's triggered by finding the book of magic scatters, of which you'll need a minimum of three to trigger the round. Three magic books will grant you ten spins at no cost. A fourth scatter will get you twelve spins, and there's a big jump to twenty-five spins if you're lucky enough to make all five scatter symbols appear at once. You can re-trigger this round while it's up and running if the scatters continue to make appearances. While your spins are going, the wizard will put his magic to good use. Every time you hit a payline, and there's a wizard somewhere in view, he'll expand to cover his whole reel, and any wins on the screen will be re-evaluated accordingly.
Book of Oz Developer - Microgaming
Triple Edge Gaming Studios did the bulk of the work that went into creating Book of Oz, but it's Microgaming who brought it to the market, and it's their name on the product. Microgaming has been known to partner with smaller developers in the past to expand their own product range, which goes some way to explaining why they currently have more than two hundred online slots available.
The other factor which explains why they're so prolific is the number of years they've been up and running for. Microgaming was already working on the future of slot gaming before anybody else knew about the possibilities that came with the internet. It was 1994 - the dark ages by internet standards - when they developed the first piece of code that would enable a casino to run on the internet. Mobile slot gaming is also essentially a Microgaming invention - they provided the software which made that possible in 2004, a decade after their internet ideas. They're truly the torch-bearers of the online slot age.
They don't leave all of the hard work to smaller developers though. They're still more than capable of coming up with delightful new online slots of their own. One only has to look at the popularity of the recent Lucha Legends slot to see that they still have their fingers firmly on the pulse of what modern slot players are looking for. Fans of HBO television sensation ‘Game of Thrones' also have Microgaming to thank for the officially-licensed online slot which ties into the show.
Microgaming has been at the forefront of all that's good in the online casino world for twenty-five years. We daresay that they'll still be there twenty-five years from now.
